Athlete: Haley Birkmeyer

Age: 23

Class: "It varies depending on my schedule, but usually an evening class."

Favorite WOD: "Any WOD that seems intimidating when I look at it and then am able to complete. I think my favorite so far is Filthy Fifty."

Favorite lift: "Backsquats & clean and jerks."

Least favorite movement: "Rowing."

How long have you been doing CrossFit? 4 months 

What keep you coming back?
"I love how challenging the workouts are and also the way it makes me feel, not only physically but mentally as well."

How did you find CrossFit?
"Not sure. It was just something I'd heard about a lot."

How did you end up at CFI?
"My mom and sister tried it and signed up right away. I had thought about it before and knew if they liked it that much, I would too."

What is your athletic background?
"I played volleyball in high school and college. Since then, I've always stayed active, running, hiking, going to group classes at the gym, and doing the Beachboy programs. My boyfriend built me a really nice bike for Christmas, so that's something I'd really like to do too! "

How much has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, and fitness level?
"In so many ways...I'm addicted! I am stronger, have more stamina. I'm already seeing results and am just healthier overall."

What's the one thing you've accomplished at CrossFit you thought you could never do?
"I've always just used my own bodyweight for strength training exercises. Lifting all these heavy weights is something I'd never thought I'd be doing."

What motivates/inspires you?
"The coaches and people at CFI. The challenging workouts. How quickly I've seen and felt a difference in myself."

What's your proudest CrossFit achievement?
"Climbing the rope to the top."

What's one goal/personal achievement you would like to achieve through CrossFit?
"Do an unassisted pull-up."

What Goals have you achieved through CrossFit?
"Many. I continue to notice improvements in my strength every week."

What are your upcoming goals?
"To work toward doing more of the prescribed WODs. I really want to hit that RX button!!"

Hobbies/Interests outside of CrossFit?
"Hiking, reading, cooking/baking, vacationing, gardening, my dogs, nutrition, being with family and friends."

How is your diet?
"I'm a pretty healthy eater. I do have a sweet tooth though! I have oatmeal or a smoothie for breakfast, usually meat and vegetables for dinner, and lots of fruit and some vegetables throughout the day."

Any advice for new members looking to join CFI?
"Just do it! It will be the best thing you can do for yourself. Every workout is scalable to your fitness level and you are taught everything you need to know to do them safely. It is worth every penny- you become part of an amazing little community with great coaches who will be right there encouraging you and guiding you every day."
